YPSILANTI - Rev. William Anderson, 72, of 442 Hawkins St., pastor of the Church of God in Christ for 26 years, died Sunday evening at his home after a long illness.
A resident of Ypsilanti for more than 30 years, Rev. Mr. Anderson was a native of Gloucester, Miss. He was the son of John and Caroline Stewart Anderson.
Rev. Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Purdue Anderson; six sons, Jerry, Leslie, and Henry, all of Ypsilanti; and Lindsey, Albert, and Clarence, all of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Willie Hardwick of Ypsilanti and Mrs. Bernice Tucker of Detroit; two stepdaughters, Naomi Purdue of Ypsilanti and Mrs. Ruth Phifer of Boston, Mass.; three stepsons, George, James, and John Purdue, of Detroit, Toledo, and Cleveland, respectively.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Curtis of Ypsilanti and Mrs. Maggie Nelson of New York City; and two brothers, Morris Anderson of Belzoni, Miss., and Joseph Anderson, of Rocky Mount, N. C.
There also are 23 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 Thursday morning in the Second Baptist Church, Ypsilanti, with Revs. Joseph Roberson of Toledo, William Remson of Detroit, Ernest Walker of Carleton, and Dempsey Taylor of Ypsilanti officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
Friends may call at Lucille's funeral home up to the time of the services.
