$190,000 Sought By St. Andrew’s

Plan Drive To Raise Balance For Addition

The second phase of an intensive fund raising campaign to underwrite the cost of the new $300,000 parish hall and classroom addition at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church begins this week.

Ground for the new parish hall and classroom addition was broken on Oct. 3, 1949, and the building is expected to be completed by Oct. 1, 1950.

In the preliminary drive, begun in May, 1947, a total of $110,000 was received in pledges. Now the fund committee, headed by Earl H. Cress, is starting a campaign to raise the remaining $190,000 as I well as spurring contributions on pledges already in.

Others On Committee

Cress will be assisted by Mrs. Frederick K. Sparrow, vice-chairman; and Cecil B. Creal, Philip J. Olin and Dr. Marvin H. Pollard. Ex-officio members of the committee are Dean-emeritus Joseph Bursley and Victor Lane, co-chairmen of the building committee.

The fund-raising committee met at 12:30 today at the Michigan Union to map plans for the solicitation of all members of the parish. Twenty “captains” and 80 “lieutenants” will be named to aid in the drive.

This week an eight-page brochure tracing the history of the church and showing sketches of the interior of the new building will be sent to members of the congregation.

The parish of St. Andrew’s is the second oldest in Michigan. It was organized in the fall of 1827 and the first church was consecrated on Nov. 18, 1838. The present church was consecrated on Nov. 10, 1869.
