Retired Sharon Farmer
Dies At Age 78
MANCHESTER - George O. Bertke, 78, a retired farmer and long-time resident of Sharon township, died yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Royal Davidter, 118 W. Duncan St.
He had been a resident of Sharon township from the age of 19 until Sept. 1, 1949, when he moved to his daughter's home. He was a member of the Sharon Evangelical and United Brethren Church, and of the Maccabees.
He was born on April 21, 1872, in South Milwaukee, Wis., a son of the late John and Mary Eggert Bertke.
Mr. Bertke married Clara Feldkamp on March 2, 1899. She died on Nov. 19, 1916. He later married Amelia Krueck Bertke, the widow of his brother, on Sept. 3, 1919. She died on April 29, 1943.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Florence L. Harris and Mrs. Mildred Uphaus of Ann Arbor, and Mrs. Hazel Davidter of Manchester; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Geissner of South Milwaukee and Mrs. Lucie Peik of Mishawaka, Ind., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Jenter Funeral Home here with Rev. A. A. Weinert officiating. Burial will be in Rowe Corner Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
