Mrs. Riemenschneider
Was Longtime Secretary
Of Cavanaugh Grange
CHELSEA - Mrs. Lydia Riemenschneider, 86, a resident of the Chelsea area most of her life, died Friday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William H. Steinman, in Charlotte, Tex. She suffered a cerebral hemorrhage.
The oldest of nine children, she was a daughter of Rudolph and Wilhelmina Nicolai Kruse and was born Dec. 10, 1863, on the Kruse farm on Notten Rd. She was married to Philip Henry Riemenschneider on Feb. 16, 1887.
The couple moved to a farm home at Cavanaugh Lake, where they lived until 1925, moving to another farm in the Cavanaugh Lake area in that year. Mr. Riemenschneider died on Feb. 13, 1941.
Mrs. Riemenschneider was a member of the Salem Grove Methodist Church, the Western Washtenaw Farmers Club, and was one of 30 charter members of the Cavanaugh Lake Grange. She was the first secretary of the Grange, serving in that capacity continuously until 1949.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Steinman and Mrs. W. W. McClure of Chelsea; a son, Walter, of Cavanaugh Lake; three brothers, Clarence, Arthur and Adolph Kruse, all living at the Notten Rd. farm; several nieces, nephews and cousins; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Another daughter, Katherine Hewett, died June 27, 1931.
Prayer services will be held at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon from the Miller Funeral Home in Chelsea, with funeral services to follow at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon from the Salem Grove Methodist Church. Rev. Ernest O. Davis, assisted by Rev. Vern Panzer, will officiate.
Burial will be in Salem Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from Monday until the hour of the services.
