Unitarians Will Vote On Proposed New Constitution

Suggested Change Would Give State Organization Increased Authority

A new constitution for the Michigan Area Unitarian Conference-strengthening the state body’s business authority - will be presented to members of the local congregation tomorrow for their approval.

The special congregational meeting will be held at 1 o’clock following a fellowship dinner.

In the Unitarian church. Rev Edward H. Redman, pastor, explained, the local church is the Unit of authority. Rev. Mr. Red man is president of the state conference.

State Gains Power

Under the modernized constitution, more power is delegated the state organization to conduct business on a statewide level, he said.

The state body would be authorized to own property and employ a staff. Member churches would be required to give the conference financial support.

The congregation will also act on a resolution by the local church board disapproving reorganization of the Western Unitarian Conference into four sub-regional conferences.

Delegates will be named for two conferences, the Western Unitarian Conference next Thursday and Friday at Evanston, Ill., and for the annual meetings of the American Unitarian Association next summer.

Research Project Planned

A special research project in religious education, to be conducted by the local congregation, will be presented by the committee for action.

At the Unitarian Adult group meeting at 10 a.m., Don Campbell of Saline will explain his beliefs as a Unitarian.

Rev. Mr. Redman will summarize the findings of an adult group discussion series on “Unitarian Needs and Attitudes Today” at the 11 a.m. services.
