When The Heat Of Summers Upon You, It’s A Cool Splash That Refreshes

Turning bright, eager (and wet) faces, these six young bathers at the Barton Hills Country Club pool listen attentively and gleefully as Alex Canja (far right) who is in charge of the pool, gives a few helpful hints on the enjoyable art of swimming. From left to right are Mary Lyn Arner, Kay Dunham, Sally Sinn, Jackie Hogan, Penny Moore, and Ann Mills, who think the water's fine, with or without the swimming.

There’s no trick to entering a pool from a slide if you just close your eyes and brace yourself. Grimly determined Steve Simmons, closely followed by an apprehensive Susie Thrasher, makes the depth-defying plunge at the Barton pool. Their unidentified audience seems only slightly impressed (with the photographer).

It may not be a swan dive, but it’s graceful, nonetheless. Young Jeff Mummery is bound to be a hero after this nonchalant, feet-first dive from a high board at the Barton pool. To Jeff, it’s all in the course of a swimming day on a hot July afternoon.
