English Language Institute Opens
Instruction in teaching English as a foreign language will be given during an English Language Institute to be held through Aug. 15 at the University.
Twenty-four teachers from 13 foreign countries are attending the program, which began earlier this week.
The group of 14 women and 10 men all teach English in their native lands and are studying in this country under a special teacher education program of the U. S. Office of Education and State Department.
While at the University, the group will follow a prescribed course in the teaching of English as a foreign language. Class work will be pursued four mornings, each week.
The fifth day and afternoons will be open to permit the teachers to attend lectures, visit institutes, museums, homes, industries, churches and athletic events.
At the conclusion of the program, the teachers will visit Niagara Falls, Buffalo, New York, Philadelphia and Washington before returning to their respective countries.
Countries represented by the group are Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Finland, Guatemala, El Salvador, Portugal, The Philippines, Panama, Mexico, Peru, Ceylon and Italy.
