SOMETHING DIFFERENT: Feature of the Purdue Military Band, a Purdue University ROTC unit, was the 16-man corps of glockenspiels. Sharing the half-time spotlight with the Michigan Marching Band, the gold-plumed bandsmen from Lafayette, Ind., paraded with multi-colored pennants and a snappy group of drum majorettes.

FLAG STUNT BY PURDUE BAND GIRLS: Ten flag-twirling drum majorettes accompanied the Purdue Military Band to the Michigan-Purdue game at the stadium Saturday. Shown here are two of the twirlers, radiating Purdue optimism during the half-time ceremonies, when the Boilermakers lead, 10 to 7. They also performed before the game.

The magazine on the bench is a collection of cartoons.

SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES: A highlight of the Michigan band's half-time entertainment was a series of formations depicting modern inventions. Pictured here is the result of a Stadium "atomic explosion," which left part of the field veiled in smoke for several minutes. The explosion also heralded the arrival of the U-M team, which "exploded" in the second half.
