Mrs. Mary E. MacLachlan, 55, wife of Harold W. MacLachlan, died today at her home, 806 S. Fifth St., after a long illness. She was born July 29, 1897, in Mooreville, Mich., a daughter of Herbert W. and Vena Gilman. After graduating from Saline High School, she taught school for five years.

Mrs. MacLachlan was a member of the First Methodist Church. She was also a past worthy matron of the Ann Arbor Chapter 122, Order of the Eastern Star, a past president of the West Side Child Study Club and a past treasurer of the West Side Women’s Club.

For many years, she was an active worker in the Bach and Slauson Schools PTA and was also active in the Daughters of Mokanna and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Besides her husband, other survivors include one son, Millard F., and one daughter, Mary Louise, both of Ann Arbor; her mother, Mrs. Vena Gilman; one brother, Frank C. Gilman of Clinton; one sister, Mrs. K. C. Laidlaw of Yale, Mich.; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Rev. Erland J. Wangdahl officiating. Graveside services will be held by the past matrons of the Order of the Eastern Star at the Mooreville cemetery. Friends may call at the Muehlig Chapel.

A Mary E. MacLachlan Memorial Cancer Fund will be established and the family asks that friends omit flowers and send donations to the cancer fund.
