Dr. Howard B. Kinyon, 72, a former Ann Arbor resident and one-time University Medical School assistant, died Saturday in Veterans Hospital, Dearborn.

Dr. Kinyon was born April 19, 1880, in Rock Island, Ill., a son of Dr. Claudius B. and Maria W. Kinyon. His father was professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the now-abolished U-M Homeopathic School from 1897 to 1918.

Dr. Kinyon was at one time a special inspector for all Michigan veterans hospitals and for 30 years was health officer for Trenton, Mich.

He served in World War I as a member of the so-called Polar Bear unit stationed in Russia for two years.

Dr. Kinyon was married to Justine Hart in 1924. She died in 1949.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Clayton Stevens, and a niece, Miss Helen Stevens, both of Ann Arbor. Miss Stevens, who is teaching at Heidelberg, Germany, is flying home to attend funeral services at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Ridge Funeral Home at Trenton.

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery here, where graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
