APPETITE APPEASER: The chill night air stimulates young appetites, which really don’t take a great deal of stimulus anyway, and the vendors circulating through the stands do a brisk business dispensing snacks.

YOUNG SPIRITS ON A SPREE: There’s no better place than a high school football game for teen-agers to let off a little steam as they cheer their favorites on. The group of Ann Arbor High School pupils really had something to shout about during a recent game at Wines Field.

THEY ORGANIZE THE NOISE: Though much of the cheering at a high school football game is entirely spontaneous, a squad of cheerleaders has the job of blending the vocal efforts into one mighty sound. Left to right are Sandy Judson, Virginia Haisley, Dorothy Rathburn, Bernadene Calvert, Janice English and Midge Stuber.

FOR ADULTS, TOO: Though high school football is primarily a game for the students, their elders turn out in goodly numbers to enjoy the contest and savor the exciting atmosphere that is a part of the spectacle. Here a student checks her ticket at the gate while an older couple walks on toward the stands.

BUSY PLACE: The refreshment stands are busy places as fans quench their thirst or appease a hunger pang. It all goes to prove that there’s more, much more, to a high school football game than what goes on out on the actual field of play. The season is about over for this year, but real devotees already are looking ahead to next fall.
