Death Attributed To Staircase Fall Funeral services for Dr. Martha Wells Usher, 26, a former Ann Arbor resident and a 1954 University Medical School graduate who died at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia Tuesday night, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational Church here. Dr. Usher was found unconscious at the foot of a flight of stairs at the hospital after a fall, and later died after efforts to revive her had failed. Her family said Dr. Usher, a resident physician at the hospital, had slept only four hours in the previous 24 hours because she was attending a difficult case. Born Sept. 9, 1929, she was a daughter of Prof. and Mrs. Carleton F. Wells of 8 Harvard Pl. She was graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1946 and that year won a four-year college scholarship in state-wide competition. Dr. Usher attended Swarthmore College and later transferred to McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where she was graduated with distinction in 1950. She was first in her U-M graduating class. She married Dr. Robert H. Usher in June, 1953. Her husband, also a resident physician at the Philadelphia hospital, survives. Surviving besides her husband and parents are a sister, Eugenia Wells McGaw of Cambridge, Mass., and two brothers, Robert D. Wells, a midshipman at the U. S. Naval Academy, and Jan P. Wells, a student at University High School. The Rev. H. L. Pickerill and the Rev. Leonard A. Parr will officiate at the services. Burial will follow in Arborcrest Cemetery. Friends may call at the Muehlig Chapel Saturday evening.
