Orchestra Conductor’s Resignation Charges To Be Answered

The board of directors of the Ann Arbor Civic Symphony Orchestra remained silent today in rebuttal to the resignation charges of Conductor Orien Dalley, except to say that a statement would be made following a board meeting Sunday.

Dalley, conductor of the civic orchestra for four years, resigned his post, “because of inharmonious conditions which have arisen, land because of lack of unified understanding and support of the aims and ideals of the civic symphony.”

Dalley is music director of the University Broadcasting Service, a lecturer of the School of Music and is known state-wide foe his radio festival series put on cooperatively between the University, public schools and radio stations.

The orchestra board of directors will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday at the home of Mrs. Percy O. Danforth of 1411 Granger Ave. Mrs. Danforth is one of 12 board members. There were 13 members, but with Dalley’s resignation as conductor he also stepped down as a board member.

Mrs. Donald L. DeCamp, president of the orchestra board, announced the decision to answer Dalley’s charges following the meeting.

She said revision of the civic orchestra’s bylaws had already informally been discussed, but denied that the revision was prompted by Dalley’s resignation.

At the meeting Sunday “the policy of the orchestra will be discussed and defined,” Mrs. DeCamp said.
