War Veteran Dies
MILAN — Francis W. Draper,
85, of Marvin St. died at Veterans
Memorial Hospital, Ann Arbor,
Tuesday night after a lingering
illness.
Born Aug. 14, 1870, he was a
son of Walter and Fannie Draper
of Milan township, and except
for seven years when he lived in
Richmond, Ind., he spent his en-,
tire life in the Milan area. I
He was graduated from Clea
Business College in Ypsilanti ai
1891; A cabinet maker by trade,
he operated the Milan Hotel for
20 years. He was a life member
of the Milan Lodge 323, F&AM.
He enlisted in Company L, 32nd
Regiment of the Michigan Volun-
teers on May 9, 1BOS ind saw
active service dun Spanish-
American War.
He was married to Cora Sher-
man on March 27, 1892. The
couple had one son, Wray. She
died June 18, 1895.
. On June 8, 1899, he ws mar-
ried to Pearl McMullen. The
couple had one daughter, Mrs.
Marguerite Puffer of Ft. Wayne,
Ind.
Survivors, in addition to his
wife, son and daughter, are a
brother, Burton Draper of Milan;
a sister, Mrs. Sadie Campbell of
Homer; three grandchildren; and
six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at
2 p.m. Friday at the Stevens &
Bush Funeral Home in Mila^
with the Rev. LeRoy Cabbage
officiating. Burial will be in Rice
Cemetery. Graveside services will
be conducted by the Masonic
order. Friends may call at the
funeral home.
