Arthur Crippen, City
Druggist Dies At 72

Arthur E. Crippen, 72, an Ann
Arbor druggist for the past 45
years and an active member of
numerous state and local organi-
zations, died suddenly yesterday
of a heart atlack at his home,
921 Robin Rd.

Mr. Crippen was a 1904 grad-
uate of the University School of
Pharmacy. He worked in drug
stores in Brighton and Grand
Rapids until coming to Ann Ar-
bor in 1911, when ne established
a drug store at 217 N. Main St.
He operated this store until his
death, and at one time was pro-
prietor of three other drug stores
in Ann Arbor.

Mr. Crippen was a member of
the Michigan State Pharmaceu-
tical Association which recently
awarded him a certificate for 50
years' service as a registered
pharmacist.

He was a member 01" the First
Methodist Church, and a former
trustee of the church: a member
and past, president of the Kiwanis
Clul' ••' • rormer lieutenant
gov ' 6th Division of
[ the ^.i^ .,,(,1,1, .Jwanis Clubs. He
also aerved for three terms on
the Ann Arbor Board of Educa-
tion in the 1920's.

Other organizations to which
he belonged were the Golden
Rule Masonic Lodge No. 159,
F&AM, Washtenaw Chapter No.
6 RAM, Ann Arbor Commandery
No. 33. Knights Templar, and
past KT commander, and the
Moslem Shrine.

He was born March 23, 1883,
in Brighton, a son of Ernest and
Helen Luse Crippen. He was
married to Bernice Croute in
Brighton ^n 1°"'i0. She survives.

Also ' is a son, James
A. CrippJn, A, local attorney;

three granddaughters, Barbara,
Christine and Lisa; and a sister,
Mrs. Leia Bird of Howell.

Funeral services wil'. be at 2
p.m. Sunday at the Muehlig
Chapel with the Rev. Eriand J.
Wan"-1-1'1 nfficiating. Burial will
be ;rview Cemetery at
Brig;^;.. Friends may call at
the chapel.
