YPSILANTI - Capt. Russell M. (Tiny) Forsyth began his 31st year as a city fireman at 7 a.m. today.
Forsyth, 54, was promoted to the rank of captain three years ago after 10 years as a lieutenant. An Ypsilanti native, he joined the local Fire Department on May 18, 1926.
The officer ranks second in seniority behind Fireman Maurice E. Mallion, the department veteran who will end his 31st year of service Aug. 24.
Forsyth was elected last January to his third consecutive term as president of Spirit No. 31, Metropolitan Club of America. Married and the father of two sons, John, 19, and Thomas, 16, Forsyth lives at 1007 Washtenaw Ave. here.
