Walter J. Mayer
Retired Florist Dies After Four-Month Illness
Walter J. Mayer, 72, a retired florist, died Sunday at his home at 400 N. Ashley St. after a four-month illness.
He was born April 23, 1884, in Lodi township, the son of John and Elizabeth Laubengayer Mayer. He moved to Ann Arbor in 1909 and was associated with the former Bischoff Florist Shop for 46 years, retiring in June, 1955.
On May 10, 1911, he was married to Helen Mae Grayer of Ann Arbor. She survives.
Mr. Mayer was a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed Church.
Besides his wife, survivors include two brother, Ernest of Lodi township, and Fred of Ann Arbor; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Hirth and Mrs. Mary Lambarth, both of Saline; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Muehlig Chapel, the Rev. Theodor Schmale officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
