Air Force Sergeant Held For Questioning On Wegener Murder
DETROIT --(AP)-- An Air Force sergeant was ordered held by state police who said they wanted to question him in connection with the unsolved slaying Dec. 23 of a Port Huron man. Before the questioning, he was not considered a "prime” suspect.
T. Sgt. Carlton Jordan, 23, of Detroit pleaded guilty yesterday to a charge of larceny by conversion. State police detectives here said they wanted to talk to him about the death of LaVerne Wegener.
Wegener, 41, was fatally beaten by robbers in the Willow Run airport paid parking lot two days before Christmas.
Jordan, who was returned from Cape Charles, Va., to face the larceny charge, admitted renting a car from a Detroit agency last July. The car was found abandoned at the Willow Run lot Jan. 2, 11 days after the slaying.
