Zal Gaz Grotto May Build Home

W. Stadium Blvd. Site

Donated For Purpose

The 400-member Zal Gaz Grotto  will meet tomorrow to vote on whether a $55,000 to $60,000 new grotto should be built on a donated site on W. Stadium Blvd., just south of the National Food Stores, Inc., at 2196 W. Stadium.

The meeting will be at 8 p.m. at the grotto at 213% N. Fourth Ave., and will follow a fish supper for the membership at 5:30 p.m.

The new grotto would be a two-level, 50x50-foot structure. A ballroom and kitchen would be on the first floor, while a barroom and clubrooms would be on the basement level. It would be of brick construction and would feature a bi-level entryway similar to that of the Masonic Temple. A parking lot would be provided in front.

The property, measuring 100x 175 feet, was donated by Past Monarch Gottlob Schumacher of 1401 Pauline Blvd.

Zal Gaz Grotto, a fraternal order which third-degree Masons and above may join, is dedicated to providing funds for research into the cure of cerebral palsy, plus aiding palsy victims. The local grotto initially endowed the Washtenaw county chapter of cerebral palsy, permitting it to organize with a charter, and stands ready with grotto manpower to aid the chapter in carrying out worthwhile projects.
