West Park Shelter Bids

Rescuer of Boy Scheduled To Receive Award For Heroism

Bids covering a variety of work and supplies, including construction of a new West Park shelter are scheduled for consideration by the City Council at its meeting at 7:30 p.m. today.

A citation for heroism and a pair of resolutions of appreciation for retiring city employees also are slated to be parts of tonight’s meeting.

The heroism award is to be presented to Jack Wirth of 1055 Long Shore Dr. On Aug. 22 Wirth rescued a 15-year-old boy from the Huron River after the youth had been knocked from a railroad bridge by a passing train.

To Cite Eastman

Ray C. Eastman, retired Planning Department director, is to receive a resolution of appreciation. Eastman retired Sept. 18. Also slated to come up tonight is a resolution of appreciation for Mrs. Johanna Vogel, who is retiring after about 34 years as an assistant in the city assessor’s office.

Assuming acceptance of a bid tonight, the West Park shelter work will get under way in short order. City Administrator Guy C. Larcom, jr., said the hope is that the shelter, to be built near the Chapin St. entrance to the park, will be ready for use in time for the ice skating season.
