Gotthilf M. Fontana Succumbs In Detroit
YPSILANTI - Gotthilf M. Fontana, 53, a former resident of Ann Arbor, died yesterday in Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit, after an illness of three weeks.
Mr. Fontana, who lived at 6394 Greenview in Detroit, was born July 31, 1905 in Carver county, Minn., the son of the late Rev. John and Carolina Franck Fontana. The Rev. Fontana was for many years minister at Rogers Corners west of Ann Arbor.
Mr. Fontana was a resident of Michigan for the past 13 years, and for the last 11 years was employed in the maintenance department of the Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Detroit, and a veteran of World War II. On April 4, 1942, he married Myrtle Sjoquist in Minneapolis Minn.
Surviving are his wife and a daughter, Elaine, at home. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Frank Mitchell of Rogers Corners, Mrs. William Furlong of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. O. M. Corbett of Lewiston, Mich., and a brother, John W. Fontana of Ann Arbor.
Funeral services will be held at the Geer Funeral Home in Ypsilanti at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. William Biehl of the Prince of Peace Church officiating. Burial will be at Bethlehem Cemetery at Ann Arbor.
