Elzay, Schools Sued For $50,000
Jack Elzay, Ann Arbor school superintendent and the Ann Arbor public schools were named defendants in a suit asking $50,000 damages filed yesterday in circuit court.
Suit was filed by attorneys for Ronald B. Thompson, 28, of 527 S. Fourth Ave., injured June 27, 1957, in an auto accident near Washtenaw Rd. and Pittsfield Blvd. Elzay was named as driver of the car which was involved in the collision with Thompson’s station wagon.
The suit alleges the collision occurred because Elzay failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection and drove the Board of Education-owned car in front of Thompson’s auto without properly noting the oncoming traffic.
Thompson said he suffered fractured ribs, internal injuries, a chipped tooth, cuts and bruises in the accident. Five children riding with Thompson were treated at University Hospital after the crash and released. The children were being returned from Chief Ta-Kee-Ko-Mo Day Camp in Thompson’s station wagon. Thompson operates the camp.
