St. Andrew’s Assistant Joins Staff Sunday

Rev. Richard Cockrell Called For Service From Grosse Pointe

The Rev. Richard Cockrell will join the staff of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Sunday as assistant priest.

Called recently from Christ Church at Grosse Pointe, where he served for the past 11 months, the Rev. Mr. Cockrell succeeds the Rev. Wilbur Schutze, who took a post at Lake Orion.

The Rev. Mr. Cockrell received music degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Michigan State University and later taught at East Lansing High School. In 1957, he received his bachelor of divinity degree from the Episcopal Church's West Coast Seminary, the Church Divinity School of the Pacific at Berkeley, Calif.

After completing his divinity training, the Rev. Mr. Cockrell was sent to Chelsea to serve as vicar of St. Barnabas' Episcopal Mission. He was ordained there and sent to Grosse Pointe last October.

Married and the father of one son, the Rev. and Mrs. Cockrell will live at 116 Fairview Ave.
