Armen's Opens Cleaning Plant
Broadway Unit Serves Northside
Armen Cleaners opened a new $30,000 dry cleaning plant and customer office this week in remodeled quarters at 1100 Broadway, which formerly housed Knight’s Market.
The facility is in addition to Armen’s main dry cleaning plant at 630 S. Ashley St., and Harry L. Greene, owner of Armen’s, said the additional plant will permit his firm to boost output to more than a quarter of a million dollars a year.
Besides the two plants, the Armen firm has three outlet stores at 510 E. William St., 619 Packard St. and 2310 W. Stadium Blvd.
Armen’s now employs 25 persons. It was purchased by Greene from Michael Avsharian in 1952 and has grown from a gross output of $350 per week to more than $5,000 per week, Greene said.
He attributes a customer deposit and pickup plan he instituted, and savings that are passed on to patrons, for the huge growth of his business.
Greene said he installed the Broadway dry cleaning plant and customer office to serve the city’s northside. The 20x40-foot store has a pink and white decor.
Greene and Michael Avsharian, jr., are co-owners of Greene’s Chemical Products of Hogback and Clark Rds., Ann Arbor township, which produces soaps, dry cleaning detergents and spotting agents that are distributed throughout the country.
