She Was Daughter of Pioneer Family
Miss Ellen B. Bach, 83, a city resident most of her life and a member of a pioneer Washtenaw county family, died Tuesday night at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after a long illness. Her home was at 1319 S. Forest Ave.
She was born April 12, 1877, in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Philip and Anna Botsford Bach. She was graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1895, the University's Literary College in 1901 and received her master's degree from the University in 1903.
After graduation she taught at Western College for Women at Oxford, O., Michigan State University Central High School in Kalamazoo and Northern High School in Detroit.
In 1924 she returned to Ann Arbor and had lived here since. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was a charter member of the Sarah Caswell Angell chapter of the DAR, charter member of the Women's Research Club at the University, and a charter member of the Washtenaw Historical Society.
For many years she was on the board of directors of the Anna Botsford Bach Home. Her mother was the home's founder.
Survivors include a niece, Miss Doris Anna Bach of the S. Forest Ave. address, and several cousins, including Miss Virginia Tibbals and Mrs. Herbert Shaw, both of Ann Arbor.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Muehlig Chapel with the Rev. William P. Lemon officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Old Ladies Home Association in care of the State Bank and Trust Co.
