Civic Theater Opens Campaign

Seeks $20,000 for Studio Building

A drive to raise $20,000 for construction of a studio building was begun today by the Ann Arbor Civic Theater. The group hopes to build on S. Main Rd. near Ann Arbor High School.

A committee to advise and assist Civic Theater members in raising the needed money has been appointed.

Its members are Carroll A. Benz, Roscoe A. Bonisteel, William E. Brown, jr., Stewart Butts, Earl H. Cress, Mrs. Frederick A. Coller, Mrs. Angela Dobson, John S. Dobson, Herb Estes, Charles Gregory, Dr. L. Dell Henry and Charles A. Hoffman.

Other members are Joseph C. Hooper, Wilfred Kaplan, Lawrence H. Ouimet, Mrs. Theophile Raphael, Burdett R. Seaman, Nicholas Schreiber, Charles A. Sink, Mrs. Neil Staebler, John E. Swisher, jr., Mrs. H. A. Towsley, Mrs. Joseph J. Wehrer, Douglas E. H. Williams and Osias Zwerdling.

Civic Theater workers heading up the drive include Clan Crawford, jr., Mrs. Stuart M. Gould, jr., John W. Rae, Jerry Sandler, A. N. Jabbour, Dr. Carl E. Gingles, Mrs. Robert Eschelman and Mrs. David Merriman.

Civic Theater president Charles C. Chadwick said the group is in urgent need of larger quarters for rehearsals, storage, scenery and costume construction, and meetings. It hopes to build the new studio this summer, but he emphasized construction cannot begin until the $20,000 goal has been met.

Chadwick said success will depend upon the support of the entire community and urged all persons willing to help to send their checks, made payable to Ann Arbor Civic Theater, Box 87, Ann Arbor.
