James A. Welch
James A. Welch, 89, died Monday morning at his home, 423 High St., after a week's illness.
He was born April 27, 1871, in Northfield township, a son of James and Catherine Nelligan Welch. On Feb. 27, 1906, he married Anna Elizabeth Hanlin. The couple lived in Northfield township until coming to Ann Arbor in 1922. Mrs. Welch died Feb. 17, 1956.
For nine years after moving to Ann Arbor, Mr. Welch was employed at the University and later was caretaker at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Northfield. He later was a caretaker at Immaculate Conception Church in Milan until his retirement in 1950.
Mr. Welch was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society of the Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Miss Gertrude Welch of Ann Arbor, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Burial will be made in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends may call at the Muehlig Chapel where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today.
