LOCAL MAN DIES AT NAVAL BASE

Phillip W. Favers, 21, U. S. Navy seaman apprentice, the son of Mr. and Mrs. P William Favers of 100 Mason Ave., died Wednesday at Portsmouth, Va., after an 11-day illness. The cause of death was a brain tumor.
A 1959 graduate of Ann Arbor High School, Mr. Favers was assigned to the naval ship USS Amphion. He was employed at Kroger and A&P stores here before enlisting in the Navy on Oct. 21, 1959.
He was born March 3, 1940, in Ann Arbor, son of P. William and Frances June Steele Favers. His assignment to the Amphion came after completion at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, Ill.
Survivors include his parents, two brothers, Robert B. and Roderick J., and a sister, Diane, all of Ann Arbor; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Robert L. Favers of Earlington, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at 2:15 p.m. Monday at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel here, with the Rev. Chester H. Loucks officiating. Military services will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after today. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
