John J. Beer, 87, of 1614 Pontiac St., who retired eight years ago from being a school patrolman, died this morning at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after an illness of two days.

Mr. Beer was born May 28, 1874, in Cornwall, England. He came to Dickinson county in the Upper Peninsula in 1893 and married Eva J. Hill in Norway, Mich., on Dec. 22, 1917. The couple had lived in Ann Arbor since 1942.

Mr. Beer was a school patrolman at the intersections of Stadium Blvd. and Packard St., Plymouth Rd. and Broadway and Taylor and Pontiac Sts., before his retirement.

He was a member of the West Side Methodist Church.

Surviving besides his wife is a son, Kenneth J. Beer of Ann Arbor; four grandchildren; a sister in England; several nephews and nieces.

Funeral arrangements are being made by the Muehlig Chapel. Friends may call at the chapel, beginning Friday.
