Two Catholic Clergymen Begin New Duties In City

The Rev. Patrick A. Jackson and the Rev. Carl G. Gentner assumed duties in Ann Arbor this week.

Fr. Jackson, who was ordained to the priesthood on June 2 at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Detroit, assumed duties as assistant pastor of St. Thomas Catholic Church here. Fr. Gentner is the new Catholic chaplain at University Medical Center.

Fr. Jackson attended St. Gertrude High School and Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, and St. John's Provincial Seminary, Plymouth. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard F. Jackson of St. Clair Shores.

A native of Detroit, Fr. Gentner was graduated from St. Ambrose High School, Grosse Pointe. He studied at Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit, from 1937-41 and did theological studies at Mt. St. Mary’s Major Seminary, Norwood, 0. He was ordained on Feb. 24, 1945, in Detroit.

He has served as assistant pastor at Nativity parish, Detroit; Sacred Heart parish, Grosse Ile; St. Michael’s parish, Pontiac; St. Francis deSales parish, Detroit; and St. Clement’s parish, Center Line, his most recent post.

Fr. Jackson succeeds the Rev. Leo F. Sabourin who came to St. Thomas in 1958 and who now is assistant pastor at St. Linus parish. Dearborn. Fr. Gentner replaces the Rev. William Yakes who has been assigned to start a new parish, St. Edith, in Livonia.
