Defense Job
CHICAGO — Argus, Inc., has
been awarded a $568,764 defense
contract for the production of
M-19 periscopes and compon-
ents, Herbert R. Leopold, presi-
dent, announced today.
Leopold said the contract
work will be done at Argus' Ann
Arbor plant, where about 50 of
''250 employes are engaged in
!defense production.
The new contract will permit
Argus to continue production
and employment at its Ann Ar-
bor plant at current levels,
Leopold said.
' The contract was awarded to
Argus by the U. S. Army's De-
troit Procurement District and
calls for the manufacture of
1,200 periscopes and an equal
.number of spare head assem-
blies. Argus designed the M-]9
periscope for use on armored
vehicles and personnel carriers.
"This latest contract reflects
the company's growing stake in
defense work and its increasing
diversification," Leopold said,
announcing that the amateur
photographic firm had recently
introduced a line of tape re-
corders and a movie viewer.
The new defense contract
brings to $2,344,338 the total
value of orders for military
goods that Argus has received
this past year for manufacture
its Ann Arbor plant.
