George Lavender
George Lavender, 90, an area resident nearly all his life, died yesterday in Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Chelsea after a long illness. He had lived at 5492 S. State Rd. in Pittsfield township since 1904.
He was born Nov. 30, 1873, in Walpole, England, the son of Edward and Mary Forman Lavender. The family came to this area from England when Mr. Lavender was three months old.
He married Lydia Handy on March 4, 1896, in Dixboro. She preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 1963.
Mr. Lavender was a charter member of the Pittsfield Union Grange in 1904.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Grover Peters of Northville; three sons, Edward H. of Pittsfield township, Clarence E. of Detroit, and Ernest J. of Jackson; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Staffan Funeral Home with the Rev. H. Vaughn Whited officiating. Burial will be in Webster Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
