Three judges for the Ann Arbor Soap Box Derby to be held this Sunday have been announced by derby co-sponsors, Jim White, Inc., and the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
They are S/Sgt. Patrick A. Brizzi, local Army recruiter; Ashley H. Clague, past-president of the Board of Education and owner of Clague's Grocery & Market, and Elwood G. Lohela, city editor of The News.
The judging will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday when the derby races get under way on Beal Ave. on the North Campus. Fifteen soap boxes are entered in division A (for 14- and 15-year-olds) and 12 in division B (for 11-through-13-year-olds).
The Ann Arbor champion will receive a $500 bond and a trip to Akron, O., for the Aug. 3 All-American Soap Box Derby.
The public is invited to view the races as well as the parade which precedes them. Admission is free to all the derby events. The pre-derby activities begin at 12 noon Sunday.
The derby entrants are visiting Frontier City in the Irish Hills today as guests of the co-sponsors.
