CHICAGO — The Ann Arbor
Division of Argus, Inc., has
been renamed Argus' Optics Di-
vision, and James W. Thompson
of Ann Arbor has been retained
is the division's general man-
ager.

Malcolm N. Smith, Argu
president, announced the name
change and Thompson's contin-
uing appointment and said that
Robert A. Wieland has been
elected vice-president of manu-
facturing.

Wieland in his new post will
be responsible for operations of
Argus' photographic plants in
Columbia, S. C.; Spring Grove,
Minn., and Elk Grove Village,
Inn. He formerly was general
manager of Argus' Columbia
plant. ,

Thompson, who lives at 1319.
)',.,•..,. in Ann Arbor, joined
Argus in 1951. He is a past pres-
ident, director and board chair-
man of the Detroit chapter of |
'he Society for the Advancement'
'if Management.

Smith said the Argus Division;
name "reflects increasing em-
phasis that Argus is placing on
the production of optics for mili-
tary and original equipment
manufacturers."
