Rev.'upert To Preach in Ethiopia

The Rev. Hoover Rupert, senior minister of the First Methodist Church, will leave Tuesday lo participate in a preaching mission for the U. S. Army at its installation at Kagnew Station, Asmara, Ethiopia. He will be the Protestant leader for a Religious Emphasis Week to be conducted from Jan. 19-26.

The local, minister will accompany Maj. Gen. Charles Brown, Army chief of chaplains, who will make an official visit to the U. S. Army Security Command at Kagnew Station that week.

During the eight-day mission, Dr. Rupert will speak to 2,000 American service personnel and an equal number of civilians who are located at Asmara. He will speak every noon and evening in the post chapel.

Dr. Rupert will travel by plane from Ethiopia to Jerusalem for a brief visit to the Holy Land. He also plans brief stops at Madrid, Athens and Cairo. He expects to return to Ann Arbor on Feb. 1.

The Ethiopia trip will be Dr. Rupert’s first mission to the armed forces overseas, although he previously has participated in similar missions at domestic Army and Air Force bases.
