Jones School Matter Before Board

Two statements expected to step up board action on the controversial Jones School report will be submitted for discussion at the regular meeting of the Ann Arbor Board of Education at 7:30 pm. tomorrow in the Public School Administrative Offices, 1220 Wells.

A statement will come from Prof. Stephen Withey which will attempt to define the racial imbalance problem at Jones. Trustee Hazen Schumacher will submit a statement recommending the first area of the problem which should be studied by the board.

Other business will include approval of the $9,197,925 budget for the 1964-65 school year and certification of school tax levies, consideration of a report and possible recommendation regarding a petition to change the attendance boundaries in the Medford Court area and approval of a $5,300 change order for caulking and pointing work at Jones School.

Final drawings and specification for a branch public library to be constructed at the corner of St. Aubin and Belvidere Creek are expected to be presented by architect David Osler.

Completing the agenda will be the monthly financial reports and recommendations for appointments and resignations in the professional staff.

A report by Fred Mammel, city superintendent for public works, on the extension of Seventh Street through Ann Arbor High School property will be given at the school board briefing session at 5:30 p.m.
