CHELSEA - George E. Hamp, 77, a former Chelsea resident, died yesterday at McPherson Community Health Center in Howell after a brief illness.
Since 1960 Mr. Hamp had been a resident of 1017 State, Brighton.
He was born May 23, 1887, the son of Eli and Ada Grissinger. He married the former Lena Goetz April 13, 1906, in Canada. The couple lived here for 28 years, going to Grand Rapids in 1937 where he was a metallurgist with General Motors Corp. He retired in 1952 and then moved to Brighton in 1960.
Mr. Hamp was a member of Olive Lodge No. 156, F&AM, of Chelsea.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harlan (Mae) Shelly of Grass Lake, and Mrs. Claude (Delores) Williams of Winans Lake; a son John Hamp of Nashville, Mich.; a brother and two sisters; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Staffan Funeral Home in Chelsea with the Rev. G. T. Nevin officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
