Forsyth, Russell M. 1007 Washtenaw Ave. Ypsilanti - Age 63, passed away Wednesday afternoon while fighting a fire in Ypsilanti. He was born Dec. 29, 1903 in Ypsilanti, a son of James B. and Ida Merell Forsyth. On April 19, 1933 he married Eda Hochrein in Fort Wayne, Ind. She survives. On May 18, 1926 he joined the Ypsilanti Fire Dept. and would have observed his 40th anniversary in another week. Mr. Forsyth was named fire chief last year March 19, 1965. He was a member of Southeastern, International and Mich. Fire Chief's Association, Ypsilanti Fire Fighters Local 401, past president of Metropolitan Club. For many years he worked at the Sinkule Market and the Brook's Food Center in Ypsilanti. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Ypsilanti, and was a former trustee, and currently a member of the Board of Appeals for Ypsilanti. He was active in Boy Scout Troop No. 90 of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and was scout master for five years. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, John R. and Thomas J. both at home, one sister, Mrs. Nelson (Marion) West of Ypsilanti, one brother Thomas J., Pompano Beach, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive; two sisters and one half sister and brother preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church with the Revs. Paul T. Pretzlaff and Wilson A. Kotchenruther officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Moore Funeral Home beginning at 7 p.m. this evening and until 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of services. Those wishing to, may contribute to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the John P. Redmond Memorial Fund for Research of Occupational Diseases of Firefighters.
