Posthumous Honor

Ann Arbor Patrolman Jan Suomala, Michigan president of the National Police Officers Association, presents to Mr. and Mrs. Eltia Borders, parents of the late Sheriff's Deputy Leo Borders, a "Medal of Valor" award given by the association posthumously to the law officer. Borders' widow, Erma, is at the right. Borders was killed in a high-speed highway chase Aug. 3. The Borders family also received a resolution from the Board of Supervisors commending the deputy's devotion to duty. The presentation was made by Ann Arbor supervisor Mrs. Elaine Rice. The presentations were made at a meeting of sheriff's officers held in the County Jail headquarters.
