The problems of a growing population were stressed by Democrat Weston E. Vivian, a candidate for Congress in the Second Congressional District, in a talk before the Graduate Student Luncheon Club of the School of Natural Resources at the University. He said the population of the U.S. is expected to increase from 200 million to 300 million by the end of this century. "Where will the new 100 million people settle?" he asked. The candidate said the population of Detroit and southeastern Michigan could reach New York's current size and he called for "better control of air and noise pollution than New York has attained."
