Everett Attackers Give Hurons Fits

Everett Attackers Give Hurons Fits
By Tom Rowland
LANSING—For Huron High’s basketball crew — as well as for almanac-lovers everywhere —last night’s hours of darkness seemed indeed the longest of the year.
Coach Ed Klum’s cagers celebrated the onset of winter and the height of the flu season playing like they had a fullblown attack.
In any event Lansing Everett gave the Green and Gold the full treatment here last night, administering a 74-52 blow to the Hurons’ hopes for a flying start in South Central League play and sending them home with a 2-3 mark on the season record.
Klum’s charges were dead-eyes from the foul line—where they hit on 21 for 25 — while throwing up a pretty good full court press and displaying some sharp passing beneath the basket. But up on the scoreboards
The Hurons fired up nine shots over the first five minutes of play before forward Larry Patrick swished the first two-pointer but then went on to close the gap to 21-17 midway through the second period.
Everett switched to a sticky lan-to-man defense while driving their lead to 34-24 at the intermission.
Everett’s reserves won in the preliminary contest over the Huron Junior varsity, 75-29.
