Gordon Packer's wife says the 62-year-old Litchfield man slipped out of the house Saturday morning so that she wouldn't see the moth-eaten sweater he wore to Michigan's Homecoming here yesterday (picture at left). But the sweater probably brought back memories of the good old days when Packer was the U-M Band's drum major from 1924-28. He led the band when it stepped out into Michigan Stadium for the first time in 1927, the year the stadium opened. Packer, the co-owner of the Ask Packer Laundry Equipment Manufacturing Co., was a member of the Alumni Band at yesterday's game. It was damp at Michigan Stadium (picture at right) as the rows of umbrellas in the background indicate, but there was nothing damp about the spirits of Wolverine fans and cheerleaders as the "Blue" rolled over Wisconsin 35-7. They say the sun usually shines in Pasadena. (News photos by Cecil Lockard.)
