SCHEMBECHLER MAKING EXCELLENT RECOVERY

PASADENA, Calif. (UPI)—Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler may be removed from the coronary care unit of St. Luke Hospital today to recuperate from a mild heart attack he suffered just prior to the Rose Bowl game.

Dr. H. J. Weinstein, the attending physician, said Schembechler was showing excellent recovery from the heart ailment but would be hospitalized for at least two more weeks before being permitted to return home to Ann Arbor.

Coach John McKay, whose University of Southern California Trojans defeated Michigan 10-3 in the New Year’s Day game, visited Schembechler with his wife over the weekend.

“Congratulations,” Schembechler told McKay. “I understand it was a fine game.”

While McKay and Schembechler discussed the Rose Bowl game, Mrs. McKay and Mrs. Schembechler visited. They said they discussed “the care and preservation of coaches.”

Because of his rapid recovery, Schembechler was allowed to watch the National Football League championship game on television in his room with his wife at his side.

“Bo is fine and has no problems,” said Dr. Weinstein. “He sat up in a chair for awhile as he witnessed the game on television.”

Attending physicians said Schembechler should recover completely from the mild heart attack and be able to resume his coaching duties this spring.
