Suicide by barbiturates has been ruled as the cause of death of University Vice President Arthur M. Ross, 54, Dr. Taisja Tworek, pathologist at the Wayne County Medical Examiners Office, reported today. Ross' body was found at 4 p.m. Friday in a room at the Ramada Inn in Allen Park, a Detroit suburb. Private memorial services were held Sunday at the home of U-M President Robben W. Fleming for the vice president for planning and state relations who came to the Ann Arbor campus in July, 1968, after serving as commissioner of labor statistics for the U.S. Department of Labor. Dr. Tworek said a toxicologist report showed a "very high level of barbiturates."
