Fr. Kamelakis Returning To Vancouver Parish

After more than seven years as the pastor of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church here, the Rev. John S. Kamelakis will be returning to St. George. Greek Orthodox Church in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Father Kamelakis served at St. George 1 1/2 years before coming to Ann Arbor in 1963.

His new position in Vancouver becomes effective Oct. 1. Pastoral appointments are made by Archbishop Iakovos of the Greek Orthodox Church in North and South America.

Succeeding Father Kamelakis as pastor will be the Rev. Athenagoras Aneste. His appointment also is effective Oct. 1. Father Aneste is currently serving in London, Ontario.

Last year Father Aneste was appointed as Orthdox Representative to the Religious Broadcast Dept. of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. That year he also established a department of orthodox studies at Kings College, University Of Western Ontario, where he taught for the 1969-70 school year.

In 1968 Father Aneste was appointed by Canadian Prime Minister Pierre E. Trudeau Orthodox representative to the advisory board on Immigration to Canada for the Ministry of Immigration.

During the two years he served as advisor, he helped revise the Canadian immigration law.

Father Aneste was born in 1941 in Chicago. He attended public school there. Upon graduation from Austin High School he attended the Hellenic College Greek Orthodox Seminary in Brookline, Mass, for one year.

After Brookline, he transferred to the University of Athens, Greece and attended the School of Theology for five years. He received his theology degree in June of 1965.

Father Aneste was ordained Deacon in December of 1965 by His Grace Bishop Meletios of Chicago, whom he served as administrative secretary.

In the summer of 1967 he was ordained priest by His Grace Bishop Timothy of Canada in the St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Toronto. Father Aneste served as administrative secretary to the Bishop of Toronto until August of 1967 when he was appointed rector of the Holy Trinity Parish, London, Ont.
