Wanty, Murray D.

Age 73, Mr. Wanty, an Ann Arbor shoe merchant and associated with the shoe business in Ann Arbor since 1922, died early this morning at his home. Born Nov. 13, 1897, in Milan, he was the son of Henry D. and Rosella Murray Wanty. On June 6, 1922, he was married to I. Wave Harner and had resided in Ann Arbor since his marriage. Mr. Wanty was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and also was active member and Past President of the Ann Arbor Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Golden Rule Masonic Lodge, No. 159 F & AM, the Elks Lodge, No. 325, the Knights of Pythias, the Drum and Bugle Corp., and the American Legion, having served in the Army during World War I. Mr. Wanty was also associated with other various local organizations. Survivors include: his wife; one son, Hugh M. of Ann Arbor; one daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Marilyn) Smith of Whittier, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Edward (Wave) Moulis of Troy. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 3 p.m., from the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Hoover Rupert and Rev. Fred B. Maitland officiating. Friends may call at the Muehlig Chapel beginning this evening and until noon on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kiwanis Forney Clement Foundation, c/o Ralph Keyes, 210 E. Huron St., A. A.
