Figure Skater Mary Greschke Dies In Ontario

Miss Mary Frances Greschke, longtime Ann Arbor resident and nationally known figure skater, died yesterday at South Baymouth, Ontario.

Miss Greschke, 47, was born in Lansing and moved to Ann Arbor five years later where she resided until 1967 when she moved to South Baymouth with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Greschke. Mr. Greschke had been retired from Goodyear’s Department Store.

In 1942, Miss Greschke won the Midwestern Novice Ice Skating Championship. In 1948, she earned a United States Figure Skating Association gold medal at competition at Lake Placid, New York.

For many years, Miss Greschke instructed and assisted the Ann Arbor Skating Club in presenting its annual Melody on Ice show. She was an honorary lifetime member of the local club.

Miss Greschke is survived by her mother, Susan Greschke. Memorial services will be held Wednesday afternoon at South Baymouth.
