Legislature Honors Slain Deputy

Mrs. Geraldine M. Crampton, seated, accepts from State Sen. Gilbert Bursley a framed resolution passed by the State Legislature recently honoring her late husband, Sheriff's Deputy Frank J. Crampton. The 60-year-old county law officer was stabbed and shot to death two years ago next month by A. J. Simpson, a 36-year-old convict being returned to Southern Michigan Prison at Jackson. Simpson is still at large. Attending the presentation was Sheriff Douglas J. Harvey, left, Frank G. Compton, center, son of the deceased deputy, and his wife, and Mrs. Gerald Gibaud, second from right, a Crampton daughter, and her husband. (News photo by Jack Stubbs)
