There are approximately 45,000 black Americans suffering from sickle cell anemia. The disease is hereditary and a cure has not yet been found.

A research center has been set up in Kerwood Hospital in Detroit and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority plans to donate the funds collected to this center. Anyone interested in sending funds may mail checks to Barbara Garrison at 1333 Wilmot or Shirlene Fant, president of the sorority at 508 S. Division.

During the last two years the sorority has also donated $2,000 to the Ann Arbor Public Library for a Black Studies Collection.
