Alumnae Cited For Service
Three local woman have received Alumnae Council Recognition awards given for the first time this year by the University of Michigan Alumnae Association.
The recipients are Mrs. Harry A. (Margaret) Towsley, Mrs. Roland 0. (Virginia) Nissle and Mrs. Richard (Jeannette) Schneeberger.
Mrs. Towsley is a member of the Sara Browne Smith Alumnae Group in Ann Arbor. She has been active in community affairs and has participated in the workings of the Ann Arbor Community Center, The Ann Arbor Women’s City Club, the YM-YWCA and Planned Parenthood. She also was the first woman elected to the Ann Arbor City Council.
Mrs. Nissle, also a member of the Smith Group, has been active in civic, church and alumnae affairs. She is a past president of the Smith Group.
Mrs. Schneeberger is a charter member of the Margaret Waterman Alumnae Group. Members of her group cited her for “spirit, dedication and enthusiasm” for alumnae club activities.
The Alumnae Council Recognition — given for alumnae service plus community involvement — is one of three awards given by the U-M Alumnae Association.
The others are the Local Service Citation, given by individual alumnae clubs for in-club service, and the National Service Citation, given for extraordinary service to the alumnae club and the community.
